Let's talk about file types: different file types that you can import and export into Keynote.
[00:00:08.0]
Well, we have GIF, we have JPEG, we have TIFF, PDF, and PNG.
[00:00:14.0]
Starting off with GIF. GIF is a web graphic, and GIFs are 256 colors or less for that matter.
[00:00:22.0]
And they are very low in color, and usually you create logos and things like that, things that don't have millions of colors.
[00:00:30.0]
JPEG on the other hand: JPEG has 16.7 millions of colors and it's photo quality.
[00:00:37.0]
If you're looking to import photos of friends and family and people you know, then I can definitely say JPEG is the winner.
[00:00:46.0]
Now TIFF is like JPEG, but it's usually higher in quality.
[00:00:53.0]
They use TIFF in printing quite a bit.
[00:00:55.0]
TIFFs, TIFF files are usually a lot of colors, probably more than 16.7 million to be exact.
[00:01:04.0]
Then you have PDF, portable document format.
[00:01:07.0]
That is often created by Acrobat Distiller or perhaps Acrobat Photoshop Illustrator, programs that create PDFs.
[00:01:15.0]
Portable document format is a wonderful thing to import into Keynote.
[00:01:22.0]
Then you finally have PNG, portable network graphic.
[00:01:24.0]
That is photo quality with transparency, and GIF has transparency as well.
[00:01:29.0]
What can you export? Well you can export to QuickTime, you could also import QuickTime.
[00:01:37.0]
That's fun. You could also import SWF files from Flash MX and that will be covered in later tutorials.
[00:01:45.0]
You could export to QuickTime for a presentation both on the PC and Mac.
[00:01:52.0]
You could export to a Keynote slide show.
[00:01:55.0]
And of course you could export to PowerPoint. If you're using PowerPoint on a PC,
[00:02:01.0]
and you want to import your project, then you choose PowerPoint from the export menu.
[00:02:07.0]
And finally you have portable document format.
[00:02:09.0]
This is a wonderful, wonderful method of exporting your slideshow.
[00:02:16.0]
If you're deciding to print your slideshow at a high quality printer, then I could highly suggest choosing PDF.
[00:02:26.0]
You could also put PDF on the Internet, which is wonderful for people to download your slideshow and flip right through it.
[00:02:34.0]
Same thing goes for QuickTime of course.
[00:02:35.0]
And QuickTime allows you to compress the video as well,
[00:02:40.0]
making it smaller in file size and manageable for people to download from a 56K modem.
[00:02:47.0]
[00:02:49.0]
to download from a 56K modem.
